Ice Cream Cone Balloons

by Danni 8/20/2010 6:13:00 AM

Sometimes an idea is just so simple it's brilliant. i think this is one of those. These ice cream cone balloons are marvelous in their simplicity. A little craft paper and some helium-filled balloons and you've got an instant centerpiece for a Birthday Party, Baby Shower or Uncle Ed's Funeral Wake.

What you will need:

    * Large sheets of thick paper like card stock
    * Round Blown-up Balloons preferably in pastel colors - one for each decoration
    * Clear Tape
    * Small children (2-7 years old are ideal, set the oven to 425°F/ 218°C)

Directions:

1. Really? You need directions? COME ON!! It's a ballooon stuck on a cone of card!

Is it sad that I would do this for myself as living room decor? ;)

Ok, so not technically an invention to save the world, but I bet you never thought of it.

Keep those ideas and inventions coming and be sure to send a prototype to me and I'll review it for you right here on dannisblog.

Nanotech Tea Bag Purifies Drinking Water for Less Than a Penny

by Danni 8/18/2010 4:44:00 AM

With roughly 1/5th of Pakistan underwater, getting safe and readily available water to the 20 million people affected by the flooding is a Herculean task. Worldwide, almost 1 billion people have no access to safe drinking water, and contaminated water kills more people worldwide than all forms of violence combined. Seeking to provide a solution to this problem, South African researchers have created a water-purifying nanotech tea bag that costs half a cent. Portable, instantly effective and with no chance of recontamination, the tea bag sounds like the best idea since sliced bread.

Here’s how the nanotech teabag works: it combines ultra-thin nanoscale fibers to filter harmful contaminants, while grains of activated carbon to kill bacteria. Simply put the tea bag in the neck of a water bottle and drink the water through it.

Marelize Botes, a microbiology researcher at South Africa’s Stellenbosch University says “The nanofibres will disintegrate in liquids after a few days and will have no environmental impact. The raw materials of the tea-bag filter are not toxic to humans.”

Even at half an American cent, the tea bag may be too expensive for the world’s poorest to afford — but that’s what NGOs are for, right?

Elegant. Simple. Effective. Involves cool technology. Saves lives.

This is science at it's most awesome.

Eat right, stay healthy, die anyway!

by Danni 8/10/2010 5:18:00 AM

I really didn't realize how many calories and fat grams are in raw walnuts! Wow!

Dieting just got much easier — or maybe it got harder? The Perfect Portions Digital Food Scale will tell you the exact nutritional value of anything you put on top of it, leaving nothing to mystery. And not giving you any excuse to fudge how many calories you think might be in a handful of M&Ms. The device uses a database of 2,000 common foods, and has space for 99 programmable foods as well. It can track your calorie intake and break down your nutritional intake for the day – handy for anyone on a strict low-sodium or low-cholesterol diet.

You can pick up this bad boy for $50 at the Sharper Image. Yes, that means you can pick up a “back massager” while you’re there. Which will make you feel better about not eating that handful of M&Ms.

With the Perfect Portions Digital Food Scale, you can quickly discover the sugar grams in your candy, the fiber in your cereal or the sodium in your crackers. This nutrition food scale makes a great support tool for anyone making healthy choices and tracks your total daily intake.

• Digital nutrition scale tracks carbs, calories, sugar, sodium and fiber
• Track your total daily intake
• Nutritional food scale has a database of 2,000 foods

The Best Things Have Already Been Invented?

by Danni 6/29/2010 4:06:00 AM

Hang up your thinking caps, inventors, because you'll never top bacon pancakes and they were invented decades ago. Possibly by Aunt Jemima herself. This looks like a pretty nice way to start the day… Now all it needs is a stick!  My best friend since second grade's mom always did this with eggs.......yum yum YUM!!! Not the eggs, my best friend since second grades Mom. Now she was delicious...

Thanks to Paul O., who invented sausage pancakes but Jimmy Dean bought the patent and buried it.

Daisy-Shaped Egg Fry Rings

by Danni 6/10/2010 7:37:00 AM

You know what's better than breakfast?

Breakfast in bed.

You know what's better than breakfast in bed?

Breakfast in bed with me.

You know what's beter than breakfast in bed with me?

Nothing.

Turn out charming shaped eggs that add a special touch to breakfast or brunch. These nonstick rings let you fry eggs in whimsical designs that fit neatly on an English muffin. Arrange the rings on a heated fry pan or griddle, crack an egg into each one and lift the rings off when the eggs are ready.

  • Arrange the rings on a heated fry pan or griddle, crack an egg into each one and lift the rings off when the eggs are ready.
  • Set includes four steel rings.
  • Nonstick coating ensures easy release and cleanup.
  • Wood-tipped handles stay cool.

Keep churning out those ideas people and I'll keep blogging about them.

Eat sushi, defend the galaxy

by Danni 5/4/2010 9:25:00 AM

They're lightsabers, they're chopsticks, they'll change the way you experience your favorite Asian foods. If you missed the chance to pick these up at San Diego Comic Con 2009, now is the time to grab these Japanese imports and deftly maneuver your food with the power of the Force. We're not sure if you know this, but Yoda has been known to carve his Thanksgiving turkey using his lightsaber.

Go forth, brave Jedi warriors, and use your chop sabers to mix just a little extra wasabi into your soy sauce. You can handle it. It is a known fact that eating sushi with chop sabers vastly strengthens your ability to ingest horseradish products. (By the way, did you know that researchers are trying to make a smoke alarm for the deaf using wasabi vapors? We're debating whether it would be more annoying to wake up to the sound of a fire alarm or the punch in the nose that only wasabi brings. What do you think?) Either way, wield your weapons and ready the way for a truly epic eating experience.

This little twist on an ancient product is still an invention and getting passed around the internet like a giant bag of Jolly Ranchers! See even silly inventions can produce a rage. Send me some of your silly ideas today!

Now, let's all slip back into our Leia slave girl outfits. What? It is May 4th you know, National Star Wars Day.

May The 4th Be With You!!
