Former radio station owner and lifelong inventor, John Kanzius, after discovering he was battling leukemia in the spring of 2002, decided to not only fight for his life, but to fight for everyone that has or may get cancer. His new dream, if accomplished, would be the scientific discovery of the century- to find a cure for cancer. You are probably thinking, as I was, that this guy is crazy. Hundreds of scientists and world renowned researchers have attempted to find a cure for cancer and have been, for all intensive purposes, unsuccessful. Well John, after 5 years and over $1million dollars, built a machine in his garage that has the ability to target cancer cells and heat them enough to kill them. The machine uses radio waves, which generate an electromagnetic field, which if intense enough, can, make the electrons inside a piece of metal move around violently- therefore generating immense heat. How it works is that a specific type of small metal particles are injected into the cancer cells (tumor), then the radio waves are released through a high-voltage system via a pair of antennas just inches apart. The 7 inch copper coils are precisely tuned to resonate at the same frequency. This creates what's called "resonant coupling", which allows the radio waves to be confined to a narrow beam. This allows them to target specific cells in the body. The electromagentic energy chooses to take the easiest path, to the metal injected into the cancer. The small metal particles superheat, killing the tumor and leaving the healthy tissue surrounding it completely intact and unscathed.
To date, the machine has been tested on rabbits and rats. John partnered with research scientists to further test his machine. They injected carbon nanotubes into liver tumors in rabbits and zapped them with John's machine. The initial results were very promising- it killed the tumor and left the rabbits healthy. They also received similar results when they tried testing using gold particles on rodents with cancer. The next step will be human testing which is still a few years off.
Sadly, John is still battling Leukemia, and he is often asked if he's used the device on himself. John's response is, "No. I wrote the patents- I know it won't work without that targeting particle. If it did, I'd be sitting in front of that thing every day," he said.
So- has the cure for cancer been discovered? Let me know if you think this invention will work or not. Would you try it if you were battling cancer? I want to hear from you on this cool invention, or if you have a great life-saving idea that you want to patent or create a prototype for these guys can make it happen!
